# Create a Wallet

Create a new Cardano wallet in VESPR with one tap, then back up its 12-word recovery phrase.

On the mobile app, creating a wallet takes one tap. In the browser extension, VESPR also asks you to create a password the first time, or to enter your password.

* **First time in VESPR:** on the welcome screen, tap **Create a new wallet**. If you haven't accepted the Terms and Privacy Policy yet, VESPR asks you to accept them first.
* **Adding to existing wallets:** tap your wallet's picture at the top left of the home screen (or go to **Settings** → **Change Account**), then under **New Wallets**, tap **Create new wallet**.

VESPR creates the wallet with a new 12-word recovery phrase and confirms with **Your wallet was successfully created!**

* **You back up the recovery phrase after the wallet is created.** Until you do, the home screen shows a **Back up your wallet** reminder. See [Backup Your Recovery Phrase](/vespr/user-guide/the-basics/backup-your-recovery-phrase.md). Back it up before you add funds: the phrase is the only way to get the wallet back if you lose your phone, move to a new phone or uninstall VESPR. Phone-to-phone transfers and cloud backups don't bring VESPR wallets with them.
* **Each wallet has one receive address**, which doesn't change. See [Receive ADA](/vespr/user-guide/the-basics/receive-ada.md).
* **VESPR does not use sub-accounts.** Each recovery phrase opens one account. To keep funds separate, create more wallets: you can switch between them from your wallet's picture.
