# Did I get charged for a swap order that was not fulfilled?

When you place a swap order on Cardano, your funds are moved from your wallet to a **smart contract** that handles the token exchange. These funds will remain securely in the smart contract until the order is either **fulfilled** or **canceled**. At no point are these funds at risk of being lost.

If your order is not fulfilled, the funds are not lost—they are held in the smart contract until you decide to **cancel** the order, at which point the funds will be returned to your wallet.

If the swap conditions, such as the accepted price, are not met, the order may stay in a pending state indefinitely until you decide to cancel it. Please refer to the section below to understand why orders can get stuck in a pending state.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.vespr.xyz/vespr/user-guide/common-issues-and-solutions/swap/did-i-get-charged-for-a-swap-order-that-was-not-fulfilled.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
